A quick guide to what wine goes well with our favourite feast of the year. All our wines are organic, from small vineyards. They really are extra special and well worth celebrating with.
Smoked salmon always a popular choice, is well known for pairing with Champagne but a chilled Chablis can work just as well. We stock a Garner & Fils Petit Chablis 12.3%. We also offer another fabulous Domaine Philippe Goulley Chablis 12.5%. Neither will disappoint. If you do want some bubbles then we have two amazing Champagnes to offer, both not easily found. Fleury and Bereche & Fils. The fizzy tang of lemon zest from either will perfectly cut through the smoked salmon and cleanse the palate.
Camembert pairs well with Champagne too.
A rich pate pairs well with an Alsace Pinot Gris or if you prefer a, Riesling. Our range includes a delightful aromatic Domaine Leon Boesch ‘Le Coq’ Alsace Pinot Gris 13.5% and Marc tempe Zellenberg Riesling 12.5%. Both bio dynamic with low sulphur. We have a delicious range of pates and pork & duck rillettes, perfect with a toasted slice of bread and butter, crackers and a chilled glass of wine.
Turkey with its low fat needs a wine that is low in tannins. A medium red or full bodied white, or an aged red works well. A Californian Zinfandel is a good choice or for an alternative a Beaujolais. We have a Jerome Balmet Vin De France Beaujolais 12% and a few others. To match the accompaniment, bread sauce and it’s a white you prefer then we recommend a full bodied Chardonnay, try our Domaine Bousquet Reserve Chardonnay 14.5% or Emiliana Adobe Reserva Chardonnay 13.5%. Both award winning and outstanding wine makers.
Rib of beef works sublimely with a good Bordeaux and our Chateau La Blanquerie 14% is a great wine at a great price, £10.95. You can also choose a new world Cabernet Sauvignon. Once again we turn too Domaine Bousquet, two to offer Cabernet Sauvignon 14% or Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 14.5%.
Goose or duck, with their oiliness will go well with a high tannin wine like a red burgundy or choose a white? Our two whites that match the rich pate will work very well with either goose or duck.
Vegetarian nut roast matches with a Merlot, our Running Duck South Africa is a good choice and we have a new world Merlot from Chile, Las Ninas. We also have Bordeaux Superieur I’Ecuyer Couronneau 14.5%. Either will match nicely. All our wines are vegan or vegetarian friendly.
Tawny Port, Madeiras, Sauternes, Sherry, Sweet Muscat, German wine and many more…quite a list for pudding.
Christmas Pudd or mince pie, Tawny port, try our Organic Casal dos Jordoes 20%, or alternative fizzy Muscat. Our slightly fizzy low alcohol Moscato D’ Asti 5% will go very nicely.
Cheesecake with peaches or apricots, or orange fruited syrups, Champagne is a great choice. Often over looked as an after dinner drink, but with sweet syrup peaches on top of a creamy cheesecake it can work it’s magic. Our Fleury Champagne will be a good choice for this dessert.
Chocolate or marzipan we have the delicious Spanish PX sherry. Our French Domaine de Trapadis Grenat is also a winner with chocolate.
Cheese board, red port, keep it simple after all that hard work making the dinner. We have two, Terra Prima Organic Reserve Port 20% and Finest Reserve Port 20%. Domaine de Trapadis Grenat is a great choice too, and one of our favourites.
